- The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, also known as Rio+20, took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2012.
- In response to the call made at Rio+20 to support countries interested in pursuing greener and more inclusive growth paths, the Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) was launched in 2013.
- PAGE serves as a mechanism for coordinating UN efforts related to the green economy and assisting countries in achieving and monitoring the emerging Sustainable Development Goals. Initially, four UN organizations—namely, ILO, UN Environment, UNIDO, and UNITAR—came together to provide comprehensive and customized support to countries.
