- A team of scientists from the Botanical Survey of India (BSI) in 2015 discovered Musa indandamanensis, a novel and unique species of sweet banana with orange pulp, on the Andaman islands.
- This new species is three times larger than typical banana species and can grow up to approximately 11 meters in height.
