‘R2 Code of Practices’ constitutes a tool available for promoting the adoption of
[UPSC Civil Services Exam – 2021 Prelims]
(a) Environmentally responsible practices in electronics recycling industry.
(b) Ecological management of ‘Wetlands of International Importance’ under the Ramsar Convention.
(c) Sustainable practices in the cultivation of agricultural crops in degraded lands.
(d) ‘Environmental Impact Assessment’ in the exploitation of natural resources.
- The R2 standard was created by Sustainable Electronics Recycling International (SERI) for the electronics recycling industry.
- The standard is called “Responsible Recycling Practices” and is intended for use in accredited certification programs for electronics recyclers.
- Companies that are R2 certified must have a policy for managing used and end-of-life electronics equipment, components and materials, which can include strategies such as reuse, materials and energy recovery, and disposal.
- The R2 certification is specifically designed for electronics recyclers.
