- The Agriculture Department of Kerala issued a ban on toxic pesticides used in farming to promote organic farming in May 2019.
- The banned pesticides included carbofuran, phorate, methyl parathion, monocrotophos, methyl demethon, prophenophos and triazophos.
- The Kerala Agriculture University was asked to suggest alternatives to these pesticides during the ban.
- The university recommended the use of less hazardous pesticides such as acephate, carbaryl, dimethoate and flubendiamide.
